Nazilli Sosyal Bilimler Lisesi, Nazilli, Turkey
Our school was founded as a state school in 2014 in order to expand its teaching facilities with a main focus on social sciences. Located in Nazili, a small town 45 km to Aydın in the west of Turkey, it has 400 students most of whom come from disadvantaged area and 35 dedicated and well motivated teachers aiming to represent the school in national and international projects.
As reliable and hardworking team of teachers, we are open to suggestions or any innovative ideas. Our teachers and administration are committed to helping students and try to provide a quality learning environment for them to achieve their potential. We value cultural diversity, the importance of respect for others. Our students are very enthusiastic to create effective and productive contacts with students of other cultures. They need an opportunity to feel what it means to be citizen of Europe. So it is our main purpose to make our students develop a positive attitude for others. While supporting career development to their professional path, we make sure they do it as socially integrated individuals.
In an effort to encourage improvement in technology, interactive learning, and communication, classrooms are equipped with internet access and smartboards. Students and teachers are able to use the ICT tool efficiently.
We have a lot of interaction with other schools in the area and actively participate in competitions, cultural and sporting activities. We have successfully carried out several erasmus+ projects with different partners from Europe.
As a boarding school having students from surrounding areas, we feel responsible for the mental and physical health of our students. In an effort to find ways to help students mature through integrating social issues and other activities, we make use of experimental method of learning through adventurous activities such as cycling walking in nature. We find this project extremely useful in that it will get students out of their seats and into nature and will build children's confidence learning outside the classroom. We know that outdoor education can have a positive effect to deal with the stress of daily life. Participating in in this project, we will learn how to help adolescent at-risk to heal from trauma and depression. We really feel the need to apply some form of outdoor education to defuse stress and boost concentration. We expect to have decreased stress levels, increased motivation, more engagement, enhanced communication skills and improved academic performance. It can also be a key factor in avoiding obesity.
The area where we live is very close to a famous geopark called Pamukkale, one of Turkey’s incomparable natural wonder with the calcium cascade terraces of snow white stalactites. Pamukkale is recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1988. It is an incomparable natural wonder with the calcium cascade terraces of snow white stalactites.
The areas resemble a giant labratory to make researhes in that it has interesting places in terms of geology and history in addition to being very close to each other. One is Pamukkale with white travertains and the other is Karahayıt with red travertains. Still another one is Kaklık cave, the underground formation of white travertains. We can visit the museums in Aphrodisias to see the artefacts and sculptures belonging to the ancient city. It is one of the earliest Sculpture school in ancient times. We can explore the area in accordance with the objectives of the Project during the mobilities.

It is our goal to try to improve quality in education ensuring to avoid discrimination and isolation. The project will support the academic results of our school by a development of student’s personality, which will be accomplished through project activities.
