IIS Isa Conti Eller Vainicher, Lipari, Italy
Our school is located in Lipari, the largest island of the Aeolian Islands, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north-east coast of Sicily, southern Italy. Our island belongs to the province of the Metropolitan City of Messina, which is the closest town to mainland Italy. Lipari has got 12,734 inhabitants, but during the tourist season (May to September), the total population may reach up to 20,000. In December 2000, during the 24th annual session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Cairns, Australia (November 27 - December 2, 2000), the property called “Isole Eolie” - “Aeolian Islands” was added to the list (Mediterranean Sea, Messina). In our country, rich in history, culture and monuments, the Aeolian Islands are a wonderful example of Natural Heritage declared property of the humanity. The registered name of our high school is: Istituto Statale di Istruzione Superiore (Higher Education Institution) “Isa Conti Eller Vainicher” of Lipari. Our school has got 500 students – aged from 14 to 19- ( from all the Aeolian Islands: Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Alicudi and Filicudi), 64 qualified teachers and 13 administrative and technical staff. Our school has - a Foreign Language High School course (with English, French and Arabic languages) - a Scientific High School course - an Applied Sciences High School course and a Technical Institute with two different departments: 1) Economic: - Management, Finance and Marketing course - Business/ Management Information Systems course - Tourism course (with English, French, Spanish, German languages) 2) Technological: - Construction, Environment, Territory course - Agriculture, AgroIndustry, Agri-food course We have different facilities: a multimedia lab, a language lab, a computer lab, a great/lecture hall, a gym, a CAD and graphics lab, a library, a science lab. Our school participates to different PON projects. Our school has a wide network of partnerships with companies, organizations and institutions. In this project we would like to raise awareness of our environmental heritage; to use English as a communication tool and different methods of ICT to fulfil project activities that include exploring History, Art, Geography and Tourism; to give our students opportunity to raise their self-confidence by cooperating with peers from different countries. The skills that make our team a prepared, structured and eligible team are: - Skills in the organization and planning of activities; - Domain of several foreign languages , including English , French , Arabic , Spanish and German; - Interpersonal and communication skills; -Several international experiences (seminars, international meetings, trainings, work meetings, etc).
